North Coast Explorer Voyage 18-30 yrs – L236 – 18 - 30 Year Olds

The cost of this voyage is heavily subsidised through a cross border initiative funded by the Irish Government. The normal cost of this voyage would be €700 per person Explore the North Coast from Belfast to Derry aboard the Become a trainee crew member on board Tall Ship Leader and have an adventure to remember. Sailing with young people from across the Island of Ireland, on a traditional tall ship on the Irish Sea. This voyage qualifies for Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential and Gaisce President’s Award Ireland and Transition year students. Leader is rigged as she would have been when first built, as a gaff ketch. She is 80′ (24m) long on deck, and 105′ (32m) overall. She displaces about 110 tonnes in sailing trim. She has a beam of 19’6" (5.9m) and a draft of 10′ (3m). Leader represents the Brixham design at its peak.

This is a delivery voyage from Dublin to Oban to facilitate the ship getting to Oban for its next project. The ship will berth at the Ferry Terminal in Oban (train station 5 min walk from the ship) on Thursday the 6th July. Glasgow is approximately 3hr train journey from Oban. With this in mind, to facilitate ease of travel home, the vessel operator has very kindly agreed for you to stay onboard the night of the 6th (at no extra cost) giving you the opportunity to experience Oban and arrange flights for the 7th July.

This voyage is part of the Erasmus+ Youth exchange programme and will comprise of the trip from Dublin to Dublin (calling at various ports) along the way for 18-30year-olds. An opportunity to sail on a Class A Tall Ship. No experience is necessary. The applicant gets to experience all aspects of sailing the ship under the close supervision of the professional crew. From operating a watch system, climbing the rigging, setting the sails to navigating and steering the ship, to trying your hand in the Galley, you will see our beautiful coastline from a different perspective.
