‘Friends’ of Sail Training Ireland

Sail Training Ireland is the National Sail Training Organisation.  The charity supports the development and education of young people via Sail Training programmes onboard tall ships and other vessels. While, Sail Training is open to people of all ages, the charity’s focuses on providing the opportunity to those from a disadvantaged/under-privileged background and those with disabilities.

This experience for these young people provides both an opportunity and environment for personal and social development.  It is not so much learning to sail, as learning from sailing, from the vessel, the sea, fellow crew members and perhaps most importantly from the trainees themselves.  Valuable Life Skills such as confidence, communication, leadership, teamwork, understanding of diversity, and resilience are learnt.  The group start the voyage as a collection of strangers but end it as a tight knit crew.  A trainee’s first voyage can often prove to be a turning point in their lives.

A key objective of the charity is to raise financial support to ensure that no young person is excluded from participation due to financial constraints. In order to assist with this goal we have set up an initiative called “Friends of Sail Training Ireland”.

We are asking supporters to make a minimum donation of €50 to become a “Friend”. As a Friend you will:

  • Be making a generous donation to help a young person take a voyage. €50 translates to approximately a half day at sea for one person.

  • Receive a digital copy of our Annual Report.
  • Receive a digital copy of our end of season newsletter.
  • Be provided with the Voyage Calendar prior to the official launch each year.
  • Receive a membership pack containing Sail Training Ireland merchandise.
  • Receive a 10% discount on other Sail Training Ireland merchandise.
  • Nominate a suitable young person for a voyage.

In order to become a Friend please complete the online form. Donations can be made by clicking on the button or any of the means detailed below.

In cases where a Friend kindly donates €250 or more, the charity can claim back tax paid on the donation from Revenue. In order to enable us to apply for this we need a CHY3 Cert to be completed. Please follow the link below to access a copy of  the form. The additional information you will require is at the bottom of this page.

We believe these voyages have the power to transform lives and help build brighter futures but without our supporters’ financial assistance it would not be possible.

Thank you so much for your support.
